Pinterest...for Recruiting? Really?

Maybe you've read about Pinterest's amazing stats.

  • 11.7 million unique users by January 2012, making it the fastest site in history to break through the 10 million unique visitor mark.
  • Drove more referral traffic to retailers than LinkedIn, YouTube, and Google+ combined in January 2012.
  • Had a user base of 3.3 million people as of February 2012, with an average of 11 million total visits per week.

Is it any wonder Pinterest is the new darling of the social media world? So how can you use this hot social media site to market your organization and attract great talent?

Employment Brand Building- Pinterest provides a great space for fun, yet professional, brand building. Develop a strategy that will appeal to prospective employees and clients alike!

  1. Showcase your values - Find visual representations of concepts like trust, teamwork and service. Are you a green workplace? Pin tips that others can follow. Or post photos of your employees participating in a community service project. Show potential candidates what it means to work at your company.
  2. Target your audience - Pin infographics that show off your industry expertise. Highlight the products you sell and the clients you serve.
  3. Engage current employees - Encourage employees to set up their own accounts and build clout as an industry authority by letting your staff showcase how passionate they are about your field. And repin content that's useful to them.
  4. Create a video gallery - With fewer videos than images on Pinterest at this point, you can use them to stand out. Do executives in your business speak at industry conferences and events? Create a pinboard that features videos of your speakers in action. Film a video of "A Day in the Life" at your company. Or just find, and pin, relevant videos from YouTube.
  5. Finally, don't forget to interact. Connect with users that display similar interests and values. This is a good way to keep in touch with potential future employees.

Recruitment - Pinterest allows you to communicate visually and engage talent in a new way.

  1. Promote original content like infographics and charts that people in your industry can use.
  2. Build unique boards that feature different careers and departments at your company. You can post pictures of actual people and events to give potential employees a positive peek into your daily work life.
  3. Share relevant industry content from other organizations.
  4. Showcase original, cool or creative ideas and relate them to your industry somehow. Try creating a board like "Dream Workplace" or "Great Cubicle Decorations."

You want to attract visitors to your site and encourage them to follow you. And don't forget to interact with them by repinning or commenting on their pins.
